melt

These last couple days of August have consisted of loose tops tucked into denim cut offs, drinking unhealthy amounts of water, going through bottles of sun screen, & even more tousled waves in my hair than usual from constantly spending time in the water throughout late morning hours til dark whether it was the beach or a water park. But this convincing heat wave is definitely not going to prevent me from stocking up on new autumn & winter-like clothing when I go back-to-school shopping this week. Speaking of shopping...

I found it funny when I saw these, just the other day I was thinking of putting studs on the top just like that on a pair of old boots. The only difference was that the boots I was planning on studding were ankle boots. Out of all the shoes I've seen by Candela NYC so far, none of them have disappointed me. I always find myself lusting over a pair whenever I see a new one.. like this. Not to mention the fact that it's flat makes it perfect for me because I would never wear anything thigh-highed with a heel attached to school, ha. Unfortunately, Candela NYC shoes are always out of my budget--these are about $430. The good things is, I found a few decent pairs of flat over-the-knee boots at a very affordable price, so I'm sensing a DIY coming, maaaybe!

Into the wild

I had a feeling it was going to be a hot day when I woke up to the sun shining right through the curtains above my bed this morning, it's about 90 degrees & for the past week or so I really enjoyed that constant 75-degree weather we were having. Just when I thought it was getting cooler it jumps back up about 15 degrees out of nowhere. Typical Orange County weather.

Currently in love with the new Wildfox Couture Spring 2010 lookbook

take this with a grain of salt

MY FOOLPROOF GUIDE TO HAPPINESS IN THE SUMMER:
1. Have a night by yourself. Stay in, dress up, listen to your music on full blast, and watch a few stupid, girly movies (The Devil Wears Prada, Clueless, ect.). I stress this: ALONE. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
2. Swim at midnight.
3. Girls' night out. Lots of them.
4. Buy a ticket to a concert. Then, go to said concert.
5. Listen to the entire Rolling Stones collection, or at least every song of theirs that you love. Which should be the entire collection.
6. Read four books, but leave the last chapter of them all unread. Read all of the last four chapters simultaneously. (Cheap, but effective!)
7. Buy a plastic crown from the nearby dollar store and wear it all day, in your bubble bath, while you're having a night by yourself, even eating dinner.
8. If it's a really nice day, take a trip BY YOURSELF to a Starbucks and sit out on the patio. BY YOURSELF. Sip your iced Chai tea latte BY YOURSELF. Make sure you look really good. The stares will be an instant confidence boost.
9. Limit what you buy!!! Or just don't go shopping. Seeing $$$ in your bank account is better than a cheap shirt you'll never wear (but we all understand that it's something you "just neeeeeeeeeed").
10. Get a goldfish if you don't already have a pet or child. So, you can be someone's #1.
11. Go into a restaurant with a friend and start sitting with some random stranger, and start a conversation with them. Then, eat with them.
12. Turn your music on (again, I'm selling The Rolling Stones) and clean your room/apartment/house. Every inch of it.

ann demeulemeester

I've just recently discovered the designer Ann Demeulemeester while originally trying to look for something else on style.com, the fact that she had my first name caught my eye, not to mention her exceptionally long surname (which from typing it I just noticed that it has an E after every one or two consonants, haha). So, I clicked her name & did not regret it at all! From 2003 to 2009, there was not one collection where I didn't like anything & in my eyes, she seemed to have improved more & more each year. Although, I have to admit her fall collections don't interest me as much as her spring ones. I especially admire her spring '08 collection as well as '09 (my favorites shown above). I LOVE how she layers all of her pieces.

how neat are these bed sets?

The first one is my favorite, but I think I would feel claustrophobic lying on that bed or would probably hit my head every morning haha, but I love how compact it is as well as the one beside it. I really like how the bottom left one has a staircase, & how the last one matches the wall.

Aside from those above I think a bed in a wall like this is something I would definitely want in my dream home:

the ocean breathes salty

We snuck out into moonlight and met at the dock. You were barefoot and had sand in your hair. I was slightly dazzled by your simplistic beauty. I inched closer. I missed you. Words that had been kept from you, words that were scrawled on ripped edges of notebooks and written in cursive in a letter never sent. They were finally floating in the air, all around, as if the forces of these tiny letters could bring us together. You had that look in your eyes, and I know, for a fleeting moment I felt a bit silly. For a fleeting moment, I imagined white doves and choirs and roses. For a moment, my whole future was spread wide in front of me. It was a shattering fall, a fatal blow, when the crushing reality sunk in.

draping in black and white

When I first saw Rad Hourani's secondary line I could not take my eyes off. Only consisting of pieces in black, white, & shades in between, however I've got a lust for drape-y clothing & the simplicity of is a big plus. I would wear everything above! "Rad by Rad Hourani" is a more affordable & wearable line by this designer coming late fall 2009. I also looked at his F/W 09-10 collection & although I'm not a big fan of all-black ensembles, this is an exception. I love all the leather & look of this collection:

Alexa Chung: One of the very few celebrities who I could actually picture myself wearing every single outfit she puts together.

r.i.p. john hughes

Looks like a week of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, Mr. Mom, and much, much more lies ahead of me.
