Sixth outfit post in a row wearing a skirt! Sheesh. I promise that wasn't intended (I only just noticed now), but as you can see, this upcoming season I'm all about minis, midis, maxis, and all the sweeping fishtail hems and asymmetrical cuts that fall in between. This cascading number in particular, has more waves than my hair and ruffles in the breeze with each step—and leopard print paired with rouge is just one of those classic combinations that I always tend to fall back to no matter what season it is.

Hope you all had an amazing NYE! For awhile, I've been looking for a classic, non-bulky, black (PETA-approved) fur coat—and let me tell you, finding one that doesn't make me look like a huge sausage isn't easy! I believe it was luck when I unexpectedly stumbled upon this piece a few weeks ago while browsing a nearby thrift shop after having brunch with my family at my favorite Mediterranean eatery in all of south Orange County, the Panini Café in Corona del Mar. With California's warm winter, I finally wore this number out on New Year's Eve with none other than a sparkly top (a total Real Housewives of New Jersey combo... whatever), on my friends' rooftop where we welcomed 2012 in a low-key celebration, overloaded on finger foods, and danced in the glowing midnight fog. It felt like a magical layer of invisibility. Happy new year, everyone! x

This Christmas, I skipped out on the wishlists and honestly didn't ask for anything. I was shocked when I received this package from Lamb and Flag on my doorstep after not even 24 hours since I gave them my shipping address! Talk about quick service. Selling the softest of tees and slouchy off-the-shoulder knits to vintage denim styles and other pieces reflecting an edgy, Cali-friendly rock 'n' roll spirit, Los Angeles-based LXF is a new retail concept selling both namesake label and third-party brands such as Cheap Monday and RVCA. Luckily, for all you locals, Lamb and Flag had just recently opened their first retail store this past Friday at the Brea Mall! With a myriad of things to do left and right lately, a more minimalistic approach in the form of fuzzy sweaters and man-repellant pants is currently the most conventional way of on-the-go dressing between the turmoil of hunting down Christmas gifts and lunch dates with old friends. Speaking of which, I generally shake my head at the thought of wearing shoes with a heel higher than an inch to the mall where constant walking takes its toll after some time but these shearling-lined boots are comfier than flats—and trust me, that's saying a lot!

Was pleasantly surprised to open a package to this ultra soft (cue in Kleenex commercial) angora knit cardigan from Mexy! There was no resisting the sun lately so I snuck out of the wide-open window to flee all papers and eight-page study guides of black on white for days of gentle breezes and leaf-covered sidewalks. I'd much rather be frolicking in the beautiful late autumn weather than studying for finals... but that's a half lie. Currently in the middle of writing a paragraph about Aristotle and legal moralism and this is just a product of blog-induced procrastination. On a related note, I'm in total disbelief that I'm almost finished with my first semester of college! Five whole weeks of liberation ahead. Time to be recklessly in love with life.

To answer some questions I get on a daily basis: my layout template is Minima, but I edited it around a lot myself; my hair is naturally wavy, and no, I do not use a curling iron (or own one), hair products, or any of the like; I use a point-and-shoot I've had since seventh grade to take the majority of my photos (not joking); my friends take 90% of my pictures; the "Rouge" part of my header isn't a font, it's handwritten by yours truly. And on a more fashion-related note: I ♥ bulky sweaters with hemlines that look like frowns and skirts that remind me of my kitchen curtains.

Finally reestablished a love affair with my classic circle sunnies after last wearing them months ago. Not sure why I neglected these particular frames for so long (Okay, not really. I kind of cheated on them with my gold-rimmed Mary-Kate Olsen x John Lennon sunglasses) but I totally forgot how they're like Mickey Mouse ears for your face! On another note, not much currently makes me happier than a completely clear horizon fully lit by a glistening warm sun in late November. Can't believe it's already almost the last month of the year! It's been awhile since I've found the perfect simple tee. I know it's one of the most ubiquitous pieces of clothing around, but finding the perfect, layer-and-go, chic-and-easy t-shirt can be a task almost as elusive as the Holy Grail! The ironic thing about wardrobe staples is that effortless and well-fitting, yet affordable pieces can be tough to track down. What I love about the city I commute to college in, is the gorgeous array of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture built in the 1920s that are uniformed all throughout the downtown area. Example? The apartment complex that is the backdrop behind me. For a hot minute, I felt like I had just transported to a getaway in Santa Fe... Wanderlusting aside and back to reality, lately I've been drained out from midterm after midterm, which pretty much calls for days of casual, comfy, and colorful (to brighten up the mood) dressing. Time for a caffeine break. Besos!

I always forget that Octobers in Southern California means wildfire season, and with that, comes the arrival of unexpected heatwaves and temperatures that call for an excuse to lie in a pool all afternoon—with a cold glass of peach sangria in hand, of course. Not to mention, a chance to wear out some of my favorite summery pieces one last time before it's too late! When there's a garden variety of botanical prints out there, it's nice to find something from the garden other than florals once in awhile. This hummingbird motif fluttered its way into my closet the moment I spotted this blouse.

I could live like this. For a moment, it felt like springtime in the fall.

Combining my favorite autumn hues: camel and rust with a dress as soft as cashmere from Felicee and chunky knitwear—one of my favorite fall elements which I've missed dearly! On the topic of greeting a new season, helllllo new "everyday" boots. Found these embossed crocodile Chelseas at the Goodwill on Hollywood Blvd. a few weekends ago... because sometimes you like shopping alongside homeless folks and hipsters dressed alike. But no, seriously, they were in mint condition and only ten bucks! Not to mention, I also found a beautiful new coat... but more about that when I actually get a chance to wear it out. One thing I've surely noticed throughout the years of shopping up and down the west coast's Goodwills (and many other thrift shops) is that these stores more than often than not reflect their local population of clothing donors. I'm pleased to say, Los Feliz, you have wonderful taste.

It's always the closure of another summer chapter that some sort of delicate gloom takes a hold of me. The mornings become darker and the days shift into more work than play, but still the post meridian sun shines bright and the last of the Indian summer's heat lingers on. There is also the promising dawn of autumn: skies bluer than sapphire and a gentle warmth in the air filled with golden leaves swirling beneath your eyes as fresh winds rush through your fingertips (though I do not advise riding a bike with no hands), so inviting for afternoons spent pouncing around in a new array of clothing combinations. With that said, I've welcomed the official start of fall with a soft, cozy knit jumper and silky tribal print shorts. I may not be able to don heavy coats and wool snoods just yet, but in the meantime, incorporating these bold patterns and creamy hues into my daily rotation happily fills my cup of tea.

What's not to love about an occasional flash of color and a classic collared shirt? I'm a huge fan of oxford shirts with sharp contrasting details so when I saw this on Romwe, I knew I had to have it! And in a candy mint hue? Just goes along suitably with all the frosty sherbet-like neons, ice cream colors, and rainbow of petit four pastels trending on the Spring 2012 runways.
My picks: Ralph Lauren's return to The Great Gatsby and flapper-esque garden party frocks that would have had Daisy Buchanan planning her preorders, 3.1 Phillip Lim's and Tibi's modernized '90s minimalism, and Mulberry's delicious brights that had me craving a box of macarons.

A little bit of Chloé in the bag and another bit of Parisian chic in the Breton stripes. And as per usual with my achromatic ensembles, bold splashes of red and gold all around. Nothing makes a classier color palette! These très comfy pants came with a black sash belt, but I substituted it with a red leather belt this time around and used the sash as a headband instead. Coincidentally, I wore this outfit while making an impromptu stop for lunch at Paris in a Cup in Old Towne Orange. Needless to say, this cutesy, almost over-the-top, but charming French-themed tea salon/bakery is slowly peaking its way to be part of my regular stomping grounds on Glassell. Creamy baked potato soup and fresh hazelnut scones, j'adore!

With Southern California holding onto summer like no other last week, the dog days had left me feeling uninspired to the point that the very thought of assembling an outfit compels a motive to rather sit in front of the A/C in pjs. Beyond doubt, I still wear things but it's become more of a halfhearted consequence to as not to go naked. Fortunately, my go-to for these days always end up in my channeling Allison from the original Melrose Place: loose white tees, high waist washed out denim shorts, a cool staple blazer casually draped over my shoulders, and sleek black belt to pull the laidback look together. Basics. Never. Get. Old. On the contrary, these sunglasses are undeniably influenced by House of Harlow 1960's "Chelsea," but for only $7, how can anyone resist?! Needless to say, they are fast becoming my favorite frames.

With some Joan Holloway via Mad Men influence and a nod to childish femininity, I decided to don a playful yet casual secretary chic look for the first day of college with none other than a basic pleated skirt and a classic spotted pussybow blouse that I acquired for $3.75 at Amvets—an enormous warehouse-sized thrift store situated in the industrial void of middletown San Diego. The oversized cardi was something I found while digging through a $1 sale at Jet Rag on Melrose a few months ago... that I continue to throw on over any outfit whenever cloudy mornings call for a quick extra layer. Simply because 1.) it goes with everything, and 2.) it's surprisingly one of the comfiest things to hide under in over-air conditioned classrooms, despite the structured appearance!

On another note, it was nice to dress without any effort the past few months—living in short dresses, sheer tops, and cutoffs—but it all seemed to be a repetition of everything done and worn now. Still, I'll be happy to take some of these well known and beloved companions with me into the next season, but I'm going to more so enjoy every missed layer of knits and sweaters while strutting down leaf-covered sidewalks. Maybe it's a lust for a change and structure, but I am more than ready for autumn and the starting courses to add some early morning glory into my routine. You see, the festival excess of summer was kind of luxurious for some time but becomes more and more dull with the season's progress. I'm looking for layers, in clothing and my agenda. Goodbye to lightweight days in the sun and glistening nights with no duty other than taking off my shoes and dancing in the moonlight. Hello to a renewed quench for learning and the smell of unopened textbooks.

A tradition that consists of floating in saltwater and idly lounging in Palm Springs at a quaint, modernized 50s style hotel where the view of palm trees stretch to a blue Curaçao sky and the rocky San Jacintos rise beyond, two glorious days reveling in life's adventures with 300 miles of shoreline and spending ideal nights stargazing on a boat in Lake Havasu, and of course, leaving Arizona's playground to head north for late nights and city lights in Sin City, Nevada... because what road trip through the southwest desert is complete without Vegas being the final destination?

Roaming around future college campus with the best f, going to the festival in town just to devour a strawberry shortcake with ice cream and whipped cream, miles and miles of glittering sunshine and cool blossom-scented breezes, The Strokes on repeat, realizing that the opposite of "cool cat" is "hot dog," window seats in a quaint café and watching the world pass by, two-story H&M at the Americana in Glendale, late nights and early mornings, making another excursion to the festival for overpriced (but delicious) funnel cake and hearing some stranger play an amazing rendition of Heart of Gold while standing next to me in line, monthly magazine raiding at Barnes and Noble, meeting a Luke Pritchard look-alike working at one of my local movie theaters, romping around the dog beach in Huntington with my friend Stacy and her new Beagle, Buffalo Wild Wings, and pretending that it's already summer makes a four day weekend well spent. My love for Moschino arose in middle school (I was a precocious 13-year-old who wanted to be a fashion designer at the time, don't judge me) when I Love Love was my favorite summer scent and I was always somehow oddly intrigued by their ad with Lily Cole everytime I flipped through an issue of Teen Vogue... Preteen years aside, Moschino remains one of my many favorite Italian designers to this day. Always true to the house ethos with tongue-in-chic pieces, their Fall 2011 collection proved no exception to the rule. I loved the rose print and pops of red and gold alongside bold and sharp tailoring featured in the aforementioned collection, and thus decided to opt for something feminine with a masculine twist upon deciding what to wear with this festively red hat—a Brigitte Bardot-esque topper promising enough to add some top-notch '70s flair to any outfit.

I know mini skirts are quickly being swept aside for longer lengths but regardless of what's "in," I still stand fully pledged. Much to my delight, I found this asymmetrical skirt, a hybrid between mini and midi. You can even button the longest part up (which I'll show that the next time I wear this skirt)! On another note, I've been coveting these sunglasses for some time... until I found the exact same pairs on eBay for about 1/4 the price. Got the gold frames too. Oh, and the tag said "Amore" so I am completely sure they're identical. I suppose I just let you in on The Cobra Snake's secret. Oops.

Now onto my latest op shopping exploits! I attained this camel toned blazer (for 3 bucks!) while doing some impromptu thrifting at Salvation Army in Pasadena this past Sunday. I love how slinky and lightweight this particular number is—which makes it more play than work—and as I'm currently taking on the role of a busy bee: nothing feels better at the moment than an oversized blazer that blends casual comfort with subtle sophistication.

When I was six I wanted a pair of beaded moccasins more than anything else in the world. At one point in my life I collected dream catchers. And too many times about two summers ago I've fallen into Pocahontas-costume territory (note: long black braided hair, tribal patterns, fringed satchels, sundresses with ethnic embroidery, feather necklaces, etc). Needless to say, there still remains a soft spot in my heart for anything Native American-inspired. Heyoka Leather fits the bill to a T.

Here's a dress that took me literally five minutes to create! And by that, I mean, I basically slashed a diagonal strip off a rectangular piece of fabric and then stitched about two straight lines. I am now bewildered as to why people spend nearly $200 on something as simple as this. Don't get me wrong, I love A Wang's T line and all, but I'm a little smarter than that ;)

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN? I've read, thought about, tried to appreciate, and after a while gave up on one of the most important books for youth of all time, Catcher in the Rye. I was looking forward to an eye-opening experience, to be changed by the book that Chapman squatted and read after assassinating our most beloved hero, but nothing happened, no epiphany, nothing. Did I go into it with too many expectations? I was disappointed. It's about an imaginative, witty private school kid who holes up in New York for a few days. Lost youth? This story really did have so much potential... Salinger worked for what, ten years on this? Shouldn't it have been a little bit more... spectacular? Especially with all the hype it has surrounding it? The name is bigger than the book. So please someone stand up for him and tell me why this novel is so "amazing" because I think I really missed something...

It's quite fun, and my friend literally had to drag me out of the house this afternoon to grab some In-N-Out with her, which turned out to be enjoyable, because I was so busy organizing my drawers. You see, I used to be a perfectionist (and by that, I mean with extreme OCD tendencies) but that part of my life is pretty much over now. Example number one, my nonexistent floor. Example number two, my hair. Example number three, somehow all my pens and chapstick and cash are always strangely vanishing... Wait, actually, never mind the latter. I always spend money and forget that I ever spent it (it's no wonder I'm always broke). Anyway, in the light of spring cleaning, I have some unwanted clothes in need of new loving owners!
